Open a CMD window as admin and CD ( change directory) to the parent folder of your VM. If you didn’t clone the VM but copied it, make sure you detach the VDK from the VM and rename the main folder of the VM to your new name. Use vmware-vdiskmanager to rename the VM disk Personally I keep the bin folder in C:\portable\vmware\Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK)\bin. Unpack the ZIP file and add the bin folder to PATH, so you can use it in the command prompt. In my case, the ZIP file I downloaded was called “VMware-vix-disklib-6.7.0-8173251.x86_64.zip”. What does VMware have to say about this? The VMware documentation says:Ĭhanging the name of the virtual machine does not change the name of this directory, nor does it rename the virtual machine files on the host.
This is oly a “cosmetic” problem, but for some of us, even that is enough provocate our obsessive nature. If you clone or copy a VM in VMware Workstation Pro, the source files of the VM will not be renamed accordingly.
